With the Audi and Lamborghini brands, the Audi Group has long been one of the most successful car manufacturers in the premium and supercar segment. In addition, the sales subsidiaries of the Audi Group supplies cars of other Volkswagen Group brands to customers. Since 2012, motorbikes from the traditional Italian brand Ducati have supplemented the range. Furthermore, the Audi Group also supplies other Volkswagen Group brands to customers via sales companies.
The Audi Group delivered a total of 1,933,517 (1,751,007) cars to customers in the past fiscal year. The core brand Audi increased its total number of units delivered by 10.5 percent to 1,741,129 (1,575,480) vehicles – a new all-time record for the Company. The brand with the four rings is especially noted for its unmistakable design, innovative technologies and high quality standards. This is expressed by the brand essence “Vorsprung durch Technik,” which comprises the brand values sportiness, progressiveness and sophistication.
The Group headquarters in Ingolstadt houses a large proportion of the production, in addition to technical development, sales and administration. Here, Audi produces the entire A3 family, including the A3 e-tron, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model, and the A3 g-tron, which runs either on natural gas, petrol or e-gas produced by Audi. The Audi RS 3 Sportback and the A4 family models, the RS 4 Avant, the A5 Coupé and Sportback, the RS 5 Coupé and the Q5 are also produced here.
In Neckarsulm, Audi builds the Audi A4 Sedan, the A5 and the RS 5 Cabriolet, the models of the A6 car line including the RS 6 Avant, the A7 and the RS 7 Sportback, plus the A8 luxury sedan. Neckarsulm is also home to quattro GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of AUDI AG. In addition to the high-performance models of the R8 car line, which are built exclusively at the Neckarsulm plant, quattro GmbH supplies its customers with the RS model range. These sporty high-performance vehicles represent the top models in their respective car line. An exclusive customization program and high-grade lifestyle articles relating to the Audi brand are other core areas of activity of quattro GmbH.
International production locations
In Győr (Hungary), AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. develops and manufactures engines for AUDI AG, for other companies of the Volkswagen Group and for third parties. The TT and TT Roadster models are also produced here. As part of extending the plant at the Győr location, Audi built a car manufacturing facility with a complete production chain – from press shop through body shop and paint shop to assembly. In June 2013, series production of the A3 Saloon started at the site, and production of the A3 Cabriolet began in October 2013. Since its establishment in 1993, the company has developed into one of the largest exporters and highest-revenue companies in Hungary.
The models of the A1 family are made exclusively in Brussels (Belgium) by AUDI BRUSSELS S.A./N.V.
Audi builds the Q7 and Q3 SUV models – including the RS Q3 – at the Volkswagen Group manufacturing locations in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Martorell (Spain) respectively.
In Changchun (China), the joint-venture company FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Company, Ltd. produces long-wheelbase versions such as the A4 L and A6 L Sedan, the Q3 and the Q5 to supply the local market. 2014 will see the opening of the new plant in the southern Chinese city of Foshan, where the A3 Sportback and A3 Sedan will be built.
Audi car production began in Indonesia in January 2011. In cooperation with INDOMOBIL/Garuda Mataram Motor, A4 and A6 models are assembled in a semi-knocked-down (SKD) production process in Indonesia.
In addition, Audi will start production in the Brazilian city of Curitiba in 2015. The Audi A3 and Audi Q3 will come off the production line at this plant in the south of the world’s sixth largest economy.
Audi is currently building a new car plant in the Mexican town of San José Chiapa. The successor to the Audi Q5 will be built here in future. The most modern production plant in the Audi world is being built on the 460-hectare site (including Just In Sequence Park).
Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. manufactures exclusive supercars in Sant’Agata Bolognese, northern Italy, where it produces the Aventador and Huracán supercar series.
At its corporate headquarters in Bologna (Italy), Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. produces all the models in its product portfolio. The company also produces motorbikes from the Diavel, Hypermotard, Monster, Panigale and Scrambler (launched in 2014) series in Amphur Pluakdaeng, Thailand. Furthermore, the Diavel, Hypermotard and Hyperstrada, Monster, Multistrada and Panigale models are also produced in Manaus, Brazil, under a commissioned production agreement.
The Audi Group continued its successful course of growth in 2014. Despite the challenging market environment, the Company increased deliveries of its core brand Audi by 10.5 percent to the new record of 1,741,129 (2013: 1,575,480) cars. Overall, the Ingolstadt-based maker of premium cars established new sales records in over 50 individual markets. The dynamic development in volume had a positive impact on Audi Group revenue, which increased to € 53,787 (2013: 49,880) million.
At € 5,150 (5,030) million, operating profit for the Audi Group was up on the prior-year level, despite high upfront expenditures for forward-looking technologies and new products as well as for the expansion of the international production network. Continuous improvements to processes and cost structures along the entire value chain once again favorably impacted profit performance. The operating return on sales for 2014 reached 9.6 (2013: 10.1) percent and was therefore at the upper end of the strategic target corridor of 8 to 10 percent.
